Kovach asks Community to Contact Congress in Support of S 682

l_a_tony_kovach__mhlivingnews__creditIn a letter from “Voice of the People” in theledger, MHProNews and MHLivingNews Publisher L. A. “Tony” Kovach appeals to his Florida neighbors to contact their congresspersons, and encourage them to attach a rider to a must-pass appropriations bill that will expand financing options for MH buyers/sellers. But he can say it much better than I.

Imagine if your home’s value – or your access to credit to buy a home – was harmed by a regulation the government could change at will. That’s happening, only most don’t know it. A solution is moving in Congress and is coming up for a key vote.

A Google search of “Dodd-Frank” plus “Unintended Consequences” yields more than 59,000 results. Hundreds of community banks have closed, in part because federal regulatory costs fall harder on smaller financial institutions than larger ones.

Manufactured home lenders are harmed, too; U.S. Bank and other lenders pulled out of the manufactured home market in the wake of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s regulations.

The Preserving Access to Manufactured Housing Act (HR 650) passed the House last spring by a wide margin (263 – 162) with bipartisan support, including U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross. The Senate version is S 682, and is co-sponsored by Florida Sen. Marco Rubio.

Before Dec. 11, the Senate will take up the General Government Appropriations bill (S. 1910), and Section 909 is a rider with the language of S 682. A few clicks on www.ContactingTheCongress.org and you’ll have your senators’ and representatives’ phone number and email. Please call or email your Senators and ask them:

To support inclusion of Section 909 – which has S 682 – as a rider to the Senate Appropriations Bill S 1910.”

Those buying, selling or refinancing a manufactured or mobile home valued under $20,000 are particularly impacted. But experts say that any housing under $75,000 to $100,000 in value is harmed, too.

Lakeland is home to many attractive neighborhoods with manufactured homes.

Access to quality, affordable living touches everyone. Let’s take care of our neighbors by making that call or email today.”
