If ObamaCare Repeal/Replace Passes Senate this Month, A Haircut Could Have Been Critical to that Cause

FormerSenatorRickSantorumDailyBusinessNewsMHProNewsNPRGettyI was up on the Hill, I happened to just go by the barbershop to see if I could get a haircut, and Lindsey [Graham, (R-SC)] was in the chair,” former Pennsylvania Senator and two-time GOP presidential candidate, Rick Santorum said.

And Lindsey asked me what I was doing, and I thought to myself, ‘Well, let me just bounce it off Lindsey,” per a report from NPR.

Santorum’s “it” was an idea Santorum had been discussing with several members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.  It would repeal large parts of ObamaCare, replacing it with a system that Republicans tend to like more.

That “it” includes block grant funding to states, which come with fewer federal mandates.

The block grant approach was part of the major welfare reform law that Santorum helped author in 1996. The reform, signed by then Democratic President Bill Clinton, was a rare successful rollback of a previous government entitlement.

Santorum and the plan’s backers are hoping that history repeats itself.

This effort is formally led by Senator Lindsey Graham, is joined by Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and thus is known as Graham-Cassidy.

An indicator that the bill has traction is the fact that Democrats have sounded the alarm, asking their supporters to contact Congress to oppose the measure.

Lack of Transparency [i.e. Deception] Cause Law To Pass, Says Jonathan Gruber

Political junkies and Daily Business News readers may recall that ObamaCare ‘architect,’  Jonathan Gruber, said that the law was written in a “tortured” way so that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) would not score the bill as a tax, one of several deceptions and heavy handed politics that opponents point to as reasons why the bill was doomed to fail in its promised goal of reducing healthcare costs.

Thomas Sowell warned the nation that ObamaCare was logically incapable of achieving its stated goal, as illustrated in the well know quote above. Collage credit, Wikipedia and MHProNews.com.

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), and other business lobbying groups have supported the effort to repeal and replace ObamaCare.  Many in business, including manufactured housing, believe that ObamaCare has harmed workers and businesses alike.

As MHProNews has previously reported from sources within NFIB, they’ve said their membership includes a similar number of manufactured home members as does the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).

But with other industry voices in the mix, NFIB is arguably a far more powerful force at the federal and state level, with a total membership of some 325,000. ## (News, analysis.)
