Home Grant Brings New Modulars to Mississippi Community

December 29th, 2010 Eric Miller

From Mississippi, the Lauren Leader-Call reports that several residents of Ellisville have received new modular homes with the help of the town’s HOME Investment Partnership grant. Ellisville was awarded $188,233 by HUD to reconstruct the homes. The article notes program funds are allocated to units of general local government on the basis of a formula that considers the relative inadequacy of each jurisdiction’s housing supply, its incidence of poverty, its fiscal distress and other factors. HUD informs eligible jurisdictions of the amounts earmarked for them shortly after HOME funds become available. The HOME Investment Partnership Program is a 100 percent grant program. The four-bedroom, two bath modular home replaces a two-bedroom, one bath pre-HUD Code home. The other replaces a three bedroom site-built home.
