OMAHA, Neb. (AP) —  “A large federal law enforcement operation conducted Wednesday targeted businesses in Nebraska and Minnesota that officials say knowingly hired — and mistreated — immigrants who are in the U.S. illegally,” reports the Associated Press (AP).

There have been several incidents in various parts of the nation that has involved manufactured housing businesses, including manufactured home communities and factory-home building producers.

These raids, first reported last year by the Daily Business News on MHProNews, were not one-time events.

Reports – ICE Raids Factory Builders

Rather, per the Daily Business News’ sources, those raids have been ongoing.  To date, MHProNews has largely kept the names of those businesses impacted unpublished.  One of the reasons why is suggested in our prior report, linked below.

The investigative arm of U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement — Homeland Security Investigations — led the operation that saw about a dozen businesses and plants raided and 17 business owners and managers indicted for charges that included:

  • fraud,
  • wire fraud,
  • and money laundering, said AP of the recent raids.

“Special agent in charge Tracy Cormier described the operation as one of the largest in Homeland Security “Investigations’ 15-year history.” Per the AP, Between 350 and 400 federal, state and local law enforcement officers worked together on the arrests, she said.”

There seems to be indications that the targeting of businesses is occurring across a spectrum of industries. Published sources suggest that these are part of the Trump Administration’s effort to deter illegal immigration at a key source – employers.

Community owners, producers, and all others should be aware of this pattern, which MHProNews will continue to monitor and report as seems warranted. “We Provide, You Decide.”  © ## (News, analysis and commentary.)
