From Shipping Container to Workforce Housing

KENS5-TV reports from Encinal, Texas developer David Monnich is building modular housing from shipping containers and is planning a 70-unit building in the Eagle Ford Shale oilfield area. Noting they stack nine high on cargo ships, Monnich says, “They’re structurally proven. They were insulated, framed and prewired before we brought them down here and put them together.” The units will rent for $800-1200 a month, as MHProNews has learned. Encinal is located in south Texas near Laredo. Monnich eventually intends to make modular homes of the units, stacked to make the home bigger as needed.
