uk_manchester_modulars__placenorthwest_co_ukThe one-time site of a manufactured home community in Caversham, United Kingdom will soon see 28 modular homes for homeless families, as MHProNews has learned from getreading.co.uk.

The goal of the Reading Borough Council is to address the chronic lack of temporary housing in the borough and reduce the use of bed and breakfasts for homeless families.

The 28 self-contained modular homes will be accompanied by 32 parking spaces, bicylce sheds, a playground and green space. The homes will be wood with UPVC windows and doors, and each will have two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen/dining room and a living room.

Councillor Richard Davies, Reading’s lead councillor for housing, noting the depletion of affordable, said: “House prices in Reading are amongst the highest outside London and demand for affordable housing far outstrips supply. The increase in the number of families requiring emergency housing has resulted in the council having to use bed and breakfast accommodation which is unsuitable and disruptive for homeless families.” ##
