FEMA sends manufactured homes to Cobeskill

fema logo_t175_b1-blackDailyGazette reports that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is transporting manufactured homes to Cobleskill NY as the agency’s response to the needs of dozens of households displaced by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee. FEMA spokesman Chris McKniff said it’s unclear precisely how many of the manufactured homes are being brought, but expects more than 20 to be delivered by Friday for those displaced by flooding. Rental units that may be available are also being evaluated.   “We continuously look at all housing needs,” McKniff said. While travel trailer RVs could be used, manufactured housing is considered more-appropriate in the Northeast due to winter, he said.  McKniff said Cobleskill will serve as a staging area for the housing units which will then be transported again to places where they can be set up. The homes will presumably be placed in nearby land lease manufactured home communities.
