Dublin Protesters Disrupt Modular Homes for Homeless Worksite

Dublin_protesters__homeless_modular_housing_ballymun__rte_dot_ei__creditFollowing the continuing saga of the 400 modular homes being built for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, which MHProNews last covered Nov. 24, 2015, the first 22 units set to be sited on Balbutcher Lane in Ballymun ignited a protest. The domonstrators allege the plan jeopardizes a plan by a local co-op to erect 40 social housing (low-income) units on that site. The protesters disrupted work for the day, according to rte.ie.

The Dublin City Council said there is no conflict between the two projects, which ended the protest by some 20 people, although some demonstrators questioned the quality of the modular homes. The city council is communicating with the co-op, and will draw up a memorandum of understanding, assuring the co-op of its plans. Talks between the city and the co-op will resume Mon., Nov. 30. ##
