Dublin Maintains Modular Homes will be Ready by Christmas

Dublin_modular_homes__irishtimes__Nick_BradshawFollowing the ongoing story of providing modular homes for the homeless in Dublin, Ireland, as MHProNews posted last on Oct. 28, 2015, although the government has not chosen a builder, or builders yet, Environment Minister Alan Kelly still maintains it will meet the Dec. 21 deadline for siting the first 22 homes in Ballymun.

As herald.ie informs MHProNews, because of the size of the homeless problem, officials decided to speed up the process and disregard the usual tendering system. The Dublin City Council (DCC) has asked all bidders how they would achieve the goal of having the first set of homes ready by Dec. 21.

While the council hopes the occupants will only be in the homes for six months, it will depend upon the availability of regular housing, but the DCC expects the homes to remain in place for five years.

The city council also admitted the cost of the modular homes is comparable to site built homes, but the savings come from the shorter construction period. ##
