Dow jumps over 250 after ECB announces stimulus. MHC Values Continue to Dip

jan-22-2015-stock-market-reportOverall, MHCV stocks declined 21.3 points from yesterday to 516.1 (-3.97%), but surprisingly, almost all of the MHCV stocks we track saw an increase in value.  Examples: AMG 4.03%, LPX 3.62%, DW 3.56%, UMH 3.16%, SUI 2.15%.

It seems that financial experts cannot agree on what to say about the direction of the stock market and the economy.  On the one hand, CNN Money tells MHProNews  that on a positive note, the European Central Bank has taken a dramatic step to stimulate the region’s troubled economy, unveiling a massive bond buying program worth at least $1.3 trillion.  President Mario Draghi said the ECB program would cover public and private sector including, for the first time, bonds issued by eurozone governments. Wall Street responded with a hearty cheer of “Bellissimo!” and stocks enjoyed a solid rally on Thursday.

On the other hand, Marketwatch tells MHProNews that if oil drops below $30 a barrel, we should brace for a global recession. The price of oil is about $17 a barrel away from signaling that a global recession is inevitable, according to a survey conducted by the ConvergEx Group with 306 investment professionals.  Meanwhile, we are told that U.S. oil supply is at its highest level in 80 years.
