Delaware Association Bestows Scholarships on Students who Reside in Manufactured Homes

first_state_manufctured_housing_assocEvery year, the First State Manufactured Housing Association in Delaware donates a scholarship to a high school senior or graduate who has lived in a manufactured home in the state for at least one year, according to capegazette.villagesoup.

As MHProNews reported June 19, 2013, candidates are judged on their scholastic record, financial need, an essay and personal/professional recommendations. This year, the $1,500 award will be shared by two recipients.

Graduating in May from Cairn University in Langhorne, PA with a bachelor’s in secondary education, Bible studies and special ed certification, Rebecca Bryan participated in sports programs, and has been active in church youth groups, teaching Sunday School and working with a children’s program and a food pantry.

Bryan lives in Millsboro, DE and wants to be an educator, encouraging others to continue learning.

Hannah Shyrer graduated from Cape Henlopen High School this year, and now attends Delaware Technical Community College, initially majoring in communications and then biological sciences. At Henlopen she was involved in a variety of activities, including theatre, track and field, Quill and Scroll Honor Society, Gay Straight Alliance, newspaper, Video Game Design, Future Educators of America and marching band.

Hannah lives in a manufactured home near Lewes, DE and intends to become a biologist.

Since 1999, First State Manufactured Housing Association has awarded a total of $36,000 for 34 scholarships. The scholarships are administered by the Delaware Higher Education commission. ##
