Crime Prevention Techniques Targeted to Manufactured Home Communities

canon_city_plice_dept__colorado__canoncitydailyrecord__creditIn an attempt to help keep illegal activity off rental property, the Cañon City (Colorado) Police Department (CCPD) Crime Prevention Unit became licensed to implement Crime Free Programs to bolster partnerships between law enforcement and owners and managers of rental properties.

According to what canoncitydailyrecord tells MHProNews, the Crime Free Programs were developed at the Mesa, Arizona Police Dept. in 1992 and have since spread to almost 2,000 cities in 48 states, as well as to six other countries.

With support from the Colorado Springs Police Dept. Crime Free Program, the CCPD is now prepared to implement the program for business, manufactured home communities, multi-family housing units, self-storage facilities, and hotels and motels.

By completing the certification process, managers and owners will receive signage stating their property is designated as a certified Crime Free property, which can appeal to long-term residents and renters, increase property values and reduce crime. Properties that have been certified have reported up to a 70 percent reduction in calls to police departments.

The free training for the three phase certification process is available to Cañon City property owners and managers. Additionally, they are invited to attend a special Manager’s Seminar to learn crime prevention principles specific to rental properties. ##
