Congressman says: “I will do anything short of shooting them”

AL Congressman Mo Brooks credit blog.AL posted on MHProNews.comIn a follow up report on a prior story in MHProNews, CourthouseNews reports that Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama stated his position against undocumented immigrants by saying “As your congressman, on the House floor, I will do anything short of shooting them.” This statement is part of the rallying cry for a federal class action law suit that claims Alabama’s new immigration law is unconstitutional. The law includes a provision denying registration to manufactured housing and mobile home owners who can’t prove they are legally in the U.S.. The plaintiffs include the Central Alabama Fair Housing Center, the Fair Housing Center of Northern Alabama, the Center for Fair Housing and two John Does, who have sued Alabama Revenue Commissioner Julie Magee and Elmore County Revenue Commissioner William Harper. Alabama passed HB 56 on June 2, which makes it a crime for Alabama residents to harbor, conceal, transport or rent property to undocumented immigrants, among other items. Opponents, including Alabama churches and the U.S. Department of Justice, have challenged its constitutionality. The plaintiffs, under lead counsel Mary Bauer with the Southern Poverty Law Center, seek class certification, compensatory damages for violations of the Fair Housing Act and the U.S. Constitution, and want the state enjoined from enforcing the law.
