City Council Seeking MHC Closure Ordinance

mh foreclosure gfhomesandland creditThe Yucaipa (California) City Council, after visiting several deteriorating manufactured home communities, is considering passing an ordinance to make it easier for community owners to convert their property to a different use. If the community owner wants to develop their property, the ordinance would give pre-approval zoning and a “mobile home closure ordinance” as incentives to sell or re-develop the property.

Several community owners and representatives of communities spoke against the ordinance, asking why they should have to get city council permission to close their communities, as newsmirror informs MHProNews.

Director of Community Development Paul Toomey said,An ordinance might be beneficial in providing clarity of the relocation process for the developer or park owner.

Yucaipa Mobilehome Residents Association (YMRA) Chairman Tony Slaick said, “As chairman of YMRA, we support the idea to bring better guidance and clarity to state law.

A feasibility study prepared by a consultant estimated $8,000 to purchase homes that could not be moved, and $1,500 for relocation.

Staff was directed to draw up an ordinance. Yucaipa is east of Los Angeles near Riverview. ##
