As Washington Boils, and Trade Roils, POTUS Heads to MN for Rally – Plus MH Market Updates

June 20th, 2018 No comments

CNNmoney6.20.2018ManufacturedHomeStocksMarketsReportsMHProNewsThe carefully orchestrated backlash to the enforcement of federal immigration law has taken center stage in media for the last 2 days. Forgotten is who passed the law, or that Presidents Bush and Obama to various degrees had a similar policy of enforcing the law.  Trade is still on investors minds, as markets closed mixed.  Having signed an executive order on the issue of separating children from those who crossed the border illegally, President of the United States (POTUS) Donald Trump heads to the battleground state of Minnesota to campaign ahead of the midterms.  That will be our focus tonight.

If you’re new, already hooked on our new spotlight feature – or are ready to get the MH professional fever – our headline reports are found further below, just beyond the Manufactured Housing Composite Value for today.

The evolving Daily Business News market report sets the manufactured home industry’s stocks in the broader context of the overall markets.

Part of this unique feature provides headlines – from both sides of the left-right media divide – that saves readers time, while underscoring topics that may be moving investors, which in turn move the markets.

Readers say this is also a useful quick-review tool that saves researchers time in getting a handle of the manufactured housing industry, through the lens of publicly-traded stocks connected with the manufactured home industry.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

POTUS Trump’s approval numbers are near his record high since taking office, and are as good or better than Presidents Reagan, Clinton, Bush, or Obama at about this same point in their presidency.

Talk of a blue wave is vaporizing, but not gone.  Some GOP hopefuls are cautiously hoping for a red wave in November, based upon the best economy in years.

But Democrats have found an issue with the border and separating children from parents.  The narrative and echo chamber are having some impact with voters, according to a CNN poll.

Against the backdrop of the so-called trade war with China and others, plus the immigration issue, the president will be in Minnesota for a rally to support his party in a state he narrowly lost in 2016, and in a district that he won.

The bullets are from CNBC.

•          President Trump holds a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday as he faces widespread backlash over his administration’s policy of separating migrant children from parents. The president signed an order Wednesday afternoon aiming to end the practice.

USTopDestinationForImmigrantsToCometo2009GallupManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

POTUS Trump is a pragmatic leader on a challenging issue.

•          Minnesota is a key midterm election state, and Trump has increasingly tied the critical elections to his efforts to crack down on illegal immigration.

•          Minnesota will elect two senators this year and has four highly competitive House races.

•          In November, Minnesota will elect a governor and two senators, due to the resignation of Democratic Sen. Al Franken over sexual misconduct accusations. Nonpartisan analysts consider four House seats — two each held by Democrats and Republicans — as toss-ups.

•          Minnesota as a whole is hardly Trump country, as Democrats have carried it for decades in presidential elections. However, Democrat Hillary Clinton won the state by fewer than 2 percentage points in 2016. That made the state more appealing to Republicans for both 2018 and Trump’s re-election bid in 2020.

•          Trump will speak at 6:30 p.m. local time in the 8th District, a broad area in northeastern Minnesota represented by Democratic Rep. Rick Nolan. The seat is one of the GOP’s top House targets. Trump won the district by about 15 percentage points in 2016 and Nolan will not run for re-election.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

We’ll let the CBNC provided quotes below speak for themselves.  But we’ll sum up why some cool headed experts think that the U.S. does hold the cards.  And their markets slid more than the U.S. markets did.  That’s a clue, to the following.

Because they buy less American products than we do from China, they can’t continue to match our tariffs. There are other moves they could make, but at the end of the day, the president is correct.  We hold the cards. Other experts we’ve spotlighted have said the same.

Per CNBC:

•    Several experienced market veterans predict the U.S. and China will eventually reach a satisfactory trade deal after some short-term saber rattling.

•    Warren Buffett, Lloyd Blankfein and Paul Tudor Jones all agree the blustery trade rhetoric between the nations is just a part of the negotiations.

•    Trade tensions with China rose to new highs Monday when President Donald Trump instructed the U.S. trade representative to identify $200 billion worth of Chinese goods for additional tariffs at a rate of 10 percent.

Sunday Morning Manufactured Home Industry Research, Reports, Headline News Recap 6.3.2018 to 6.10.2018

June 10th, 2018 No comments
sundayMorningManufacturedHousingIndustryTradeNewsRecap6.3.3018to6.10.2018DailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Trivia: If you look carefully, the screen shot of the iPad above often looks like the MHProNews home page did on that Sunday morning.

Mensch

We’re preparing an article about a Jewish gentleman known by scores in the Manufactured Home (MH) industry.

In mentioning our research to a Jewish MH industry colleague, he said, “Make sure you say that he was a mensch.”

Google’s online dictionary defines the word “mensch” like this.

MenschNobelPrizeofWordsTitleYouCantBestowOnYOurselfmensch

men(t)SH/

noun NORTH AMERICAN informal

  1. a person of integrity and honor

The Urban Dictionary says, “A mensch is a someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character. The key to being “a real mensch” is nothing less than character, rectitude, dignity, a sense of what is right, responsible.”

Dictionary.com says a mensch is a “person of strength and honor,” 1907, from Yiddish, from German Mensch, literally “man, person,” from Old High German mennisco “human,” from Proto-Germanic adjective *manniska- “human” (see mannish

Everyone, including we non-Jews (“the goyim”), can learn much from the mensch we are fortunate enough to encounter in life.

Divisions

Among the things Tony and I discuss from time to time is how governments, by accident or design, can divide people who otherwise can joyfully coexist side-by-side, absent irksome meddling.

RC Williams, Daily Business News MHProNews

RC Willaims.

As R.C. Williams put it about a year ago, there are professional race-baiters. It’s a term used by others besides R.C., to describe individuals who literally make money stirring up racial discord, often using a non-profit, or other operation to collect money.

Political parties are useful in some ways, but it must also be acknowledged that political parties and their advocates have the tendency to divide people into “us vs. them.”

That can happen in professional groups too.

HowToBeAModernDayMenschThoughtcoDailyBusinessNewsMNProNEws

Scriptural scroll for rabbinic reading.

We’re not among those who believe that every religion is equal.  There are for example, Satanists, not many believers would put them on the same level as other groups. But we acknowledge that if God-Who-Created all gave man free will, then we must respect other’s right to choose.

That doesn’t imply that in politics, religion, economic or other distinctions that dialogue should be avoided.

Robust, frank dialogue that seeks truth in all its forms is to be celebrated.

So, respectful dialogue on issues that divide people ought to be embraced.

Absent absolute standards of right and wrong, how can we recognize what’s criminal, okay or what soars to the level of what is honorable?

To be a mensch – an honorable person who acts with integrity – whatever one’s personal or demographic data might be – requires standards.

Back to Basics

Many a coach has taken a struggle team “back to basics,’ Tony says. When something is awry, the basics ought to be among the first its to examine.  When the industry is still at historically low levels of sales, everything that contributes to that should be evaluated.

When Tony and I met nearly 15 years ago, Tony was working in the Houston metro area. He described an impressive manufactured housing retail operation that had lots of traffic. It had leading edge tech at that time. The display made every home look as if it was ground set.  Every home was staged to the 9s.

That retailer had multiple outlets.

But as impressive as that retail operation was, as high as their traffic was, their conversion ratios were low. Their sales were low.

They ended up going bankrupt.

Tony said much of their plan was fine, but when people aren’t buying in sufficient numbers to sustain a business, it’s an obvious sign that one or more things are either missing or are not sufficiently emphasized.

That retailer never became a client of his. For a fraction of the cost of their monthly overhead, they could have invested and won. They pinched pennies, and it cost them millions. It’s but one of numerous examples of ways that a firm can fail.

The word “integrity” has several meanings. One is “the state of being whole and undivided.”

HonestyIntegrityWordCloudEthicsTrustRespectSincereMonsoonLeadersManufacturedHousingMHProNEws

Honest people can fail. Dishonest people can succeed for a time, as some criminal enterprises prove.

But ultimately every operation that has integrity – in a free enterprise system – learns to serve the public in ways that benefit the buyer, while profiting the seller. It must be a mutual victory.

That win-win requires a foundation, the basics. Every company or organization needs it.

When there’s one or more mensch in the mix, a person of integrity and honor, the odds for sustainable success arguably goes up.

We salute all people who are honorable, and who act with integrity.

With no further adieu, let’s look at the week that was, in over two dozen headline reports.

Politically Incorrect Cartoon Commentaries, Lighter Side of Making America and Manufactured Housing Great Again

June 9th, 2018 No comments

16PoliticallyIncorrectCartonCommentariesLighterSideMakeAmericaAndManufacturedHousingGreatAgainMHproNEws

Long-time MHProNews readers know that over the years, we’ve broken many of the politically incorrect rules in MHVille reporting, and hard-hitting commentary.  You rewarded us with the most page views and readership of anyone in industry publishing, thank you. Thanks too for those who make this possible.

But today, to keep things light – and still make industry pros, investors, researchers and others think – we’re going to let these political cartoons do most of the talking.

GovtOfficialCloakofSecrecyPublicRightToKnowManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews595

For years, manufactured housing’s future was mired in D.C. politics that seemed to have no end in sight.

BrancoStopTrumpDoesCrowdSizeMatterWhereAreYourPeopleWorkingManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

For example. Manufactured housing had near zero impact on the housing/mortgage meltdown of 2008.

Yet, the industry is routinely reminded by certain groups of its loose lending sins by lenders of roughly 2 decades ago. The bulk of those sins didn’t cost taxpayers. The mistakes of the 90s and early 2000s of operations like GreenTree and Conseco didn’t melt the economy down.

BrancoButIGotBiggerPayCheckNiceBonusChuckSchumerNancyPelosiTrickoftheRichManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

But for some, those sins of the past seemingly can’t be absolved or forgotten.  Why is that so?

Why did conventional housing and lending get a hall pass, which cost taxpayers and the economy trillions in de facto bailouts, and federal taxpayer support?

BrancoSomebodyThreatenedToShootUpOurSchoolFBIBusyTrumpRussiaCollusionManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Why did manufactured housing – which a bi-partisan swatch of politicos and experts agree is an important part of the solution to the affordable housing crisis solution – get punished?

MassShootingsinAmericaWhosToBlameLawAbidingGunOwner

The loudest voices aren’t always the correct voices.

The Daily Business News could go on and on this morning with questions like that, which our reports seek to answer.

Cartoonist Branco has done brilliant work, and the word is that from time to time, he’s retweeted by President Trump.

BrancoJohnMcCainGetOutYouLowLifeScumMitchMcConnelManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHproNews

Just the facts. Its the elitists, those that know better, but screwed America up for the many for the benefit of the few for decades. They are in both major political parties.

We editorially supported President Trump, months before the 2016 primary was settled.

PoliticalCartoonIwasWinningCOmeyMustGoPresidentTrumpFiredHimManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusienssNewsMHProNEws

There’s so much news, but one must not forget what happened, in some cases, not so long ago. Memory is a gift that must be used, along with prudence, and a questioning mind.

We did so because an objective consideration at what Secretary Clinton presented, and promised looked like more of the same in Washington, D.C.’s swamp.

BrancoBerniesandersDrinkThisFreeSocialismHillaryClintonDrinkThisImAWomanSocialismAndCorruptionManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNEws

Former DNC Chair Donna Bazile said that the primary was rigged against Senator Sanders. Their is evidence to suggest that the powers of the federal government wee being used to tilt the election in favor of Secretary Clinton.

We supported Candidate Trump, even thought Warren Buffett supported Secretary Clinton.

BrancoIAgreeTrumpIsTooDangerousToBePresidentManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Speaks volumes!

By contrast to Clinton, then candidate Trump is a business tycoon, a builder, and an entertaining communicator.

BrancoDebbieWassermanSchultsFiredLytingCheatingAgainstBerniesandersSecHillaryClintonDespicableWantAJobManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHPronews

Americans can’t afford to forget what it was like just 2 short years ago. The advocates of the corrupt socialist agenda never stop pushing. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, plus action to defend our God-given, constitutionally protected rights.

Then candidate Trump energized the base of numerous business professionals, and the millions of what Ms. Clinton called “deplorables.” The president brought back the “blue collar Democrats” into the common-sense conservative cause.

President Obama pledged to veto Preserving Access if it hit his desk.

BrancoCNNTrumpTweetsanotherANntiCNNPostYear2038UpdateWeShoulseeEvidenceofTrumpRussiaCollusionAnyDayNowManufacturedHousingIndustryMHProNews

Any day now…

Secretary Hillary Clinton pledged to keep Dodd-Frank intact.

BrancoParisClimateAccordsManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

Branco must get it on climate. No one wants dirty air or dirty water. But the climate agenda is about taxes, plus picking winners and losers.

S 2155 did half of what Preserving Access hoped to do, but it also did much more, and President Trump signed it into law.

These are facts.  They may be politically incorrect, but they are facts.

BrancoSweatToDefendCOnstitutionAllEnemiesForeignAndDomesticManufacturedHousingIndutryDailyBUsinessNewsMHProNews

President Abraham Lincoln said that America would never be conquered from without, but only from within. Its the power grabbers, those that took big chunks of the financial, healthcare, and other sectors over that must be watched., and defeated legally.

We believe in common sense, even if it isn’t politically correct.

The economy is roaring, while obstructionists are screaming about every single thing they can, as if the president hates the Americans whose lives his policies are clearly improving.

BrancoBenghaziCausedByMovieKeepDoctorHealthcareLovePressWeNeedToInvestigateVoterFraudLiarPressTrumpMHProNews

If Russian interference with elections is a serious issue, and it is, then why isn’t voter fraud a serious issue?

If you aren’t comfortable with the president’s tweets, don’t read them. But watch his bottom line results.  Promises made, promises kept.  Make America Great Again. That’s patriotism.  That’s common sense.

Pay attention to what is getting done now, that was not getting done before in Washington, D.C.’s swamp.

UnmaskingAntifaSorosDonaldJTrumpBrancoManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBuisnessNewsMHProNews

George Soros and other uber rich billionaires oddly often support socialistic, and leftist causes, why? Does big government = power? Does supporting big government give the uber rich more influence than every day Americans? Drain the swamp.

Regulations are frozen, thanks to the President’s executive orders. Pam Danner is gone at HUD. Thank you, Secretary Carson, please keep it that way.  Please make sure that Danner isn’t returned, and that the replacement is some hand-picked candidate of the billionaire crony capitalists who seek to dominate our industry, to the harm of the majority of small to mid-sized businesses.

The DOE energy rule is frozen, thank you Secretary Perry, please keep it that way.

As the midterms approach, why not vote for common sense? Why not vote for those who support the man getting things done?  Why not support the 45th president’s policy and agenda?

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

The Fed just announced that the net worth of Americans has hit 100 Trillion dollars.  Talk is cheap. Action speaks louder than words. Thank you, Mr. President.

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

CNBC provided the following bullets on concerns over a new plan advanced by Warren Buffett, Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, the parent company for the manufactured housing industry’s largest conglomerate.  Their video interview with Buffett and Dimon are also shown, for balance.

  • A proposal by Jamie Dimon and Warren Buffett to end quarterly earnings guidance drew considerable acclaim but also scattered criticism, including a sharp rebuke from an analyst who’s been in the business for more than half a century.
  • The idea is “misguided” in that it would increase market volatility by reducing information and actually increasing speculation, said Dick Bove, a strategist at Hilton Capital Management, who has been a widely followed and sometimes contrarian voice in the financial markets since 1965.
  • We’re driving the market on rumor and innuendo, we’re driving the market to high-velocity trading, we’re driving it in all these directions that say knowledge has no value,” Bove said in an interview. “These two guys are at the top of the list saying knowledge has no value, therefore we don’t want to give it to you.
  • Dimon, who runs the largest bank in the U.S. as J.P. Morgan Chase CEO, and Buffett, the legendary head of industrial conglomerate Berkshire Hathaway, rocked Wall Street with their suggestion that corporate executives should stop providing future profit estimates during quarterly earnings presentations.
  • In a Wall Street Journal op-ed Thursday, and a joint CNBC interview, the duo bemoaned the short-term thinking plaguing market activity.
  • In our experience, quarterly earnings guidance often leads to an unhealthy focus on short-term profits at the expense of long-term strategy, growth and sustainability,” they wrote.
  • J.P. Morgan representatives did not respond to a request for further comment on Bove’s remarks. A Berkshire spokesman pointed to a portion of the op-ed noting that “transparency about financial and operating results is an essential aspect of U.S. markets” and advocates for quarterly reporting to continue, minus the forward-looking aspect.

CNNmoney6.6.2018ManufacturedHomeStocksMarketsReportsMHProNewsThe first look at last night’s primaries continue to indicate that the blue wave from 6 months ago, has vanished.  It’s a jump ball.  With about 2 out of 3 Americans giving President Donald J. Eight states – Alabama, California, Iowa, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota – will hold primaries Tuesday to pick candidates to run in the midterm general elections Nov. 6. But before turning our attention to those races, it’s useful to look back at primary results in May and see how they reveal a Democratic party in a deep state of division,” wrote Douglas E. Schoen, a 30 year pollster and political consultant.

With the Trump agenda delivering for businesses and investors on many levels, the midterms are one of those clouds hanging over the markets. In manufactured housing, without Donald Trump in the Oval Office, S 2155 would not have passed.  Or would tax cuts and regulatory rollbacks passed under a President Hillary Clinton?  Given her campaign pledges, and her comments since the election, it seems unlikely.

Voters in Democratic primaries are split between staunchly progressive and more moderate factions,” said Schoen, who has advised the Clintons and other Democrats. “In the struggle for leadership of the party, supporters of each faction are potentially fatally weakening the Democrats for November contests, and potentially for the 2020 elections as well. That could pave the way for President Trump to be re-elected.”

There has been a dramatic change in the generic polling for Congress. Republicans now lead Democrats by 1 point, according to Reuters. Moreover, there has been a dramatic improvement in President Trump’s approval rating, with the Real Clear Average now up to 44 percent,” he wrote.  What Schoen didn’t say in this column was that half-a-year ago, there was a widely touted “blue wave” coming, and the “generic Democrats” were supposedly polling double digits ahead of Republicans.

The looming blue wave – per recent trends, and as a talking head quipped – has crashed.  The Rasmussen poll has often had the President Trump at 50 percent approval or higher.

The reason why this is happening is because Democrats lack an agenda,” Schoen said. “The party, deeply split between its progressive and moderate wings, is divided on both message and tactics. This puts the party at risk not only at the ballot box, but in Republican-controlled state legislatures and governor’s offices throughout the country, with redistricting occurring after the 2020 census.

DouglasSchoenDemocraticPoliticalAnalystPolslerManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews

To be sure, the Democrats’ losses in 2010 doomed their chances this past decade. Republican majorities throughout the country continue to benefit President Trump as he prepares for 2020, when he has said he will run for re-election,” he wrote in a column on Fox.  Democrats have reportedly lost over 1000 seats in the U.S. since 2010, at the local, state, and federal levels.

The lack of consensus between the two factions of the Democratic Party is clear, unambiguous and startling,” said the moderate Democratic strategist.

The progressive agenda focuses primarily on resisting President Trump at every step, labeling his every action a scandal, and calling for his impeachment without any vetted or verifiable evidence of wrongdoing,” said Schoen, cautioning, “Progressives also advocate a redistribution of wealth without any long-term plan to fund policies such as Medicare-for-All or guaranteed employment.”

The moderates offer a distinctly different worldview. They offer a plan for inclusive economic growth and an alternative set of policies to resolve the issues surrounding immigration and health care. At the same time, they reject party-line loyalty to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and calls for President Trump’s impeachment,” per the Democratic party veteran.

While elections this far out are always a jump ball, subject to a variety of possible events, Team Trump seems to have some advantages.

That said, the GOP is far from united.  Many are still quietly, or at times, openly, defying their party leader, President Donald J. Trump.

DougSchoenDemocaticPollsterConsultantDailyBusinessNewsMHProNEws

Anti-Trust and Democrats

What seems to be getting less attention recently among Democratic candidates is any focus on their “Better Deal” plank that aims to revive anti-trust law.

Left-leaning Slate, said “Democrats unveiled their “Better Deal” midterm election blueprint…there was one particularly exciting and overlooked item: one piece of the party’s new antitrust policy. The platform contains the most interesting idea in antitrust policy in decades, a plan that—if it is designed well—could finally bring real life to merger law, the most important but probably most failed component of American competition policy.”

The plan proposes to create a “consumer competition advocate,” which they would style as the 21st-Century Trustbuster,” according to Slate.

While thin on overall detail, the Better Deal’s antitrust proposals contain this extremely promising idea: Under its plank for “Cracking Down on Corporate Monopolies and the Abuse of Economic and Political Power,” the platform proposes a plan for “tough post-merger review.” After mergers are approved and consummated, the Democrats would require “frequent, independent reviews” of the merged firms’ performance, ensure resources are available for such reviews, and demand “corrective measures” if regulators “find abusive monopolistic conditions where previously approved measures fail to make good on their intended outcomes,”” stated Slate.

As MHProNews has previously reported, while there are voices on both the left and right that have raised concerns about the growing problems caused by monopolies in the U.S., Europe and elsewhere, this is an issue that Democrats have tended to focus on more.  That too could proven an issue worth watching as the mid-terms draw near.

President Trump, of course, has also raised concerns about the issue of monopoly.  Will the Trump Administration push the anti-trust issue more, as his poll numbers hold steady, or are rising? “We Provide, You Decide.” © ##  (News, analysis, and commentary.)

President Trump Spotlights Factory Home Builder in Speech, Proven Promotion, Support of Industry Advancement

June 5th, 2018 Comments off

Presidential powers are substantial, but they are not unlimited. So among the tools a president can use to some effect is the bully pulpit. That’s the power of spotlighting a topic via a public forum.

In a speech, President Donald J. Trump raised the profile of a once-famed factory-based home builder he knew. The video of that part of his speech, is shown below.

The president’s family business has also had direct ties to an upscale factory home builder, Revolution PreCrafted Homes.

The 45th president clearly has personal knowledge of factory-crafted home building, as well as of conventional housing construction.

It is worth noting that Vice President Mike Pence hails from Indiana. Industry sources tell the Daily Business News, that then-Governor Pence understood manufactured housing (MH), used the proper terminology, and was supportive of the industry.

In Senate testimony, HUD Secretary Ben Carson, MD, has called modern manufactured homes “amazing.” Meanwhile, Secretary Carson labeled the regulatory regime of the Pamela Beck Danner era as “ridiculous.” Dr. Carson did so without mentioning her by name.

TrailerHouseMobileHomeManufacturedHomeFactoryBuiltHousingEvolution101MHProNews-MHLivingNews

Make a habit of using the correct terminology.

Operation Breakthrough

Levittown and that builder named by the president was an example of factory-based home building were included in HUD’s report on Operation Breakthrough, linked below. The linked reports on Operation Breakthrough – along with other linked resources from this article – can be read later, for additional details, and a deeper understanding.

A HUD’s PD&R report linked below are one of the sources that demonstrated via university-level research that modern manufactured homes appreciated side-by-side with conventional housing in urban infill settings.

The full implementation of two existing laws – manufactured housing’s enhanced preemption and the Duty to Serve could unlock two trillion dollars in additional growth, without the need for massive federal spending.

Enforcing the law” has become a Trump Adminstration catch-phrase.

Enforcing the two laws linked here and above could pave the way to home ownership for millions, which in turn would spur the personal wealth of many, including blacks, Hispanics and all other demographic groups.

As Secretary Carson reminded the nation last year, home owners have an average net worth of $200,000, while renters only have an average net worth of $5,000 dollars.

There are debatably few other items that the Trump Adminstration could do than enforce those two existing laws, which would:

  • cost the federal government less tax payer money over time,
  • yield more wealth for millions,
  • all while creating more good jobs,
  • and higher domestic economic growth.

Virtually everyone, save perhaps a few monopolistic forces, would benefit from enforcing two laws already on the books regarding manufactured housing.

Posturing vs. Doing

The Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) has attempted to claim credit for the passage of the MLO rule when S 2155 was signed into law. The Masthead predicted that this dubious MHI claim would occur from the Berkshire Hathaway dominated association, prior to the signing of the bill.

It was the Trump Administration, not MHI, that made the MLO rule passage possible.

White House Signing Ceremony on Historic Pro-Growth Financial Regulatory Reform

Note that then candidate Trump pushed for such a bill, by campaigning for reforms of Dodd-Frank.

By contrast, Warren Buffett backed Hillary Clinton pledged to do what Barack Obama did. Chairman Buffett led Berkshire Hathaway used their manufactured housing mouthpiece, MHI, to posture reforms of Dodd-Frank for years. But that reform of Dodd-Frank was only accomplished under President Trump.

Buffett publicly supported President Barack Obama, who pledged to veto a bill that included a similar provision to S 2155. MHI’s now exited government relations Vice President Jason Boehlert admitted in writing that the passage of MHI’s bill, Preserving Access was unlikely while President Obama was in the White House.

2012 Election Results and Coming Lame Duck Session

By contrast, the Manufactured Housing Association for Regulatory Reform (MHARR) said early on in the Trump Administration that the industry could not ask for a better president in the Oval Office that Donald Trump.

Once understood, its an apparently classic case of what President Trump has called “a rigged system.”

Examples of a Corrupt, Rigged System?

The Washington Post made it clear that it was MHARR, not MHI, that worked with the Trump Administration to exit the destructive regulatory steps Pam Danner, JD, caused manufactured housing operations during her tenure at the Office of Manufactured Housing Programs (OMHP).

Greener, Stylish Manufactured Homes – Hidden Facts in the Washington Post Manufactured Housing Narrative

MHI EVP Lesli Gooch specifically told the Washington Post that they did not weigh in on the Danner controversy. That confirmed months of MHProNews reporting on that subject.

By contrast, Mark Weiss, President and CEO of MHARR, was cited by the Washington Post as specifically pushing for the removal of Danner as an Obama Administration holdover, who was working contrary to President Trump’s regulatory freeze order.

The fact-patterns appear to be stark, and clear.

The Buffett/Berkshire dominated MHI was allegedly posturing reforms of Dodd-Frank and HUD, but in fact supported for president, first Barack Obama and then Secretary Hillary Clinton. That’s Mr. Buffett’s right, but then it is debatably unjust for MHI to claim that they were trying to mitigate regulations.

In fact, regarding the Department of Energy (DOE) plans for manufactured housing under the Obama Administration, MHI was promoting heavier regulations, while MHARR stood alone among MH industry associations in Washington D.C. to stop them.

Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) Shifts on DOE Regulatory Rule, Report, Analysis

Marty Lavin, JD, bluntly said on the record that MHI was working for “the big boys” and their interests.

The MHI award-winning Lavin has previously said “pay more attention to what people do than what they say.” In hindsight, isn’t it clear that MHI said they wanted to make certain reforms, but in fact Buffett’s “big boys” – such as Berkshire owned Clayton Homes, 21st Mortgage and Vanderbilt Mortgage and Finance (VMF) – were working to maintain or even increase regulatory burdens?

Why?

Because heavy regulations are both a barrier of entry to new businesses, and are also a force that can crush existing business operations. It is part of Buffet’s strategic “Moat” philosophy.

Using the established principles that high taxes, and high regulations harm smaller business, the Buffett tool of MHI was de facto aiding in the consolidation of manufactured housing companies. These are points President Trump has often raised in a general way in his speeches.

Sources on- and off-the-record have leveled charges that MHI was working against the interests of smaller companies, while Berkshire Hathaway owned brands and some others in manufactured housing were “consolidating” – or killing off – smaller independents for years. MHI’s own data reflects the trend.

While MHARR has raised such issues in their own fashion, only MHProNews among the industry’s trade media has spotlighted these concerns. Long-time readers will recall that MHProNews editorially supported and endorsed President Trump during the 2016 campaign. That support drew the attention of the presidential campaign, which for months had one of this writer’s articles on the Donald J. Trump campaign website.

12ReasonsEducatedIranianAmericanWomanSupportsDonaldTrumpPostedMastheadBlogMHProNews954x846

While the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI) paid for two pro-Clinton speakers in the closing days before the 2016 election, the Kovach family and MHProNews supported Donald J. Trump’s candidacy as the best for the industry, small business, and hundreds of millions of Americans. One of those stories ended up on the president’s campaign website, and hundreds of conservative and pro-Trump websites.

While industry’s bloggers and MHProNews competitors were often shilling or cheering MHI and Berkshire Hathaway owned brands, MHProNews and those who support this platform stood alone in the industry’s media to warn the industry’s members against the complex, and tortured ways MHI and Berkshire Hathaway were killing off and/or “consolidating” companies at bargain prices.

Time Travelers, and the Future of American Homes

Marty Lavin, a manufactured home industry success story in his own right, has said “follow the money.” People are entitled got their own opinions, but they are not to their own facts. MHI can claim to be working to mitigate regulations, but where is their evidence? Why did MHI VP Rick Robinson dodge questions and debate in Deadwood in 2017? Or why did MHI President Dick Jennison dodge questions in Louisville in 2018?

The Trump Administration is doing their part. They are striving to undo the damage of years of crony capitalism in Washington, D.C., step-by-step.

If Brian Montgomery and Secretary Carson will avoid the trap of appointing a MHI candidate to be the non-career Administrator of OMHP at HUD, it could be another next step forward for millions of Americans.

Based upon reports from industry sources, MHProNews has supported Vic DeRose to replace Danner. DeRose could be someone that holds to the regulatory philosophy of the president, to administer the manufactured housing program in a way that could benefit industry and consumers alike. “We Provide, You Decide.” (C) ## (News, analysis, and commentary.)

Today’s MH Market Spotlight Report –

There’s a two part report tonight with two videos, both courtesy of CNBC.  Note that their now saying what the Daily Business News has been noting for months.

The May jobs report is great news for everyone — except Democrats running for office

·        Friday’s monthly employment report was great news for anyone looking for a job in America – unless you happen to be a Democrat running for Congress.

·        That’s because voters who are employed are historically more likely to favor incumbents than those who are out of work.

·        With the jobless rate now down to 3.8 percent, Democrats in 435 House districts and 35 Senate races face a major challenge as they try to unseat Republican majorities in both chambers.

The US economy suddenly looks like it’s unstoppable

·        Friday’s economic data provided evidence the U.S. economy is heading into the second half of 2018 with strong momentum.

·        Nonfarm payrolls beat expectations while manufacturing and construction indexes both showed accelerated growth.

·        Economists are slowly ratcheting up expectations for growth through the end of the year, with widely followed measures putting the second quarter at between 3.6 percent and 4.8 percent.
