HUDSecreetaryDrBenCarsonShedLightRecentMeetingManufacturedHousingIndustryDailyBusinessNewsMHProNews750,000 Jobs. $4 Trillion in market value increase.  The video interview below opens with some comments from President Trump, and then moves to a 3 on 1 with HUD Secretary, Dr. Ben Carson himself.

HUD’s new leader recently made a circuit of news talk shows.

The focus of those discussions have been the recent, first full cabinet meeting with President Trump, as noted in the video.

Carson said that there are a lot of people in the Trump Administration who know how to get things done.  He also noted that they are “working across silos,” instead of being solely focused on their own narrow field of interest.

That, Carson said, is providing new opportunities for government to work more efficiently.

He explained this was already starting to take shape at HUD, even though it has only been a few months since the new Administration has taken office.

Carson also addressed in this video, the ‘poverty is in part a mind-set’ comment, which sparked a backlash from the left about his statement on that theme.

Not Just Parking People In Dwellings

Carson said that they weren’t interested at HUD in simply putting people into a dwelling. Carson noted their desire to “develop people.”

He said that there is a need to create a win-win by leveraging public-private partnerships.

Home ownership is a key factor” in creating wealth, he said. Carson states there is a need to allow renters a viable path to move from renting into home ownership. The reason?  Those who own have $200,000 average net worth, while renters have only have $5,000 net worth.

The manufactured housing industry is keenly focused on hearing his details on such statements.

EO 13777 and the Path Ahead at HUD

While the comments period for Executive Order 13777 is now officially closed, researchers will find the comparison and insights from a review of the MHI, MHARR and other industry professional comment letters submitted in response to that order.

Should public comments lead to implementation –  which seems to be taking shape in other parts of the federal government – that could provide the industry with increased opportunities, sales, and would boost job creation — all by helping Americans to become home owners.
