Cape Coral Carolers Chorus Criticism on Off-site Constructed Crib

cape_coral_fla__abc7__credit__modularUpdating a story MHProNews last posted Jan. 8, 2016 regarding a modular home being sited in Cape Coral, Florida that is raising hackles from residents and Realtors who maintain the home is threatening property values, dozens of people attended a city council meeting to further protest the $200,000 home.

While contractor Spencer Raffel admits on the outside the home looks a little different than neighboring houses, on the inside you cannot tell it is a modular home, according to abc7. Some residents complain that its not the house itself but the property next door.

Neighbor Lynn Rosko said, “They look like a cheese box for the front door on it, and stick it up in a neighborhood where the homes are worth $500,000, $600,000, $700,000, people are going to be upset. Now, the one on Embers is going right up next to a house that’s worth approximately $400,000.”

Building officials in Cape Coral say modular homes can be built on any lot zoned for a residence, that they will not affect property values, and a state statute limits restrictions on them.

Realtor Jay LaGace said, “They (residents) don’t want to be in the areas where these modular homes exist. Right now we’ve got 2,200-plus members on the Facebook page. The city of Jacksonville has enacted legislation to control where they’re built according to zoning and aesthetic regulations.”

Contractor Raffel said, “Once again we just went with what the owner wanted and it’s going to be gorgeous.” Gold Key Homes, the builder, is unperturbed by the criticism and said they are building homes for 35 more customers in Southwest Fla. including the Cape. ##
