Candidate in Aussie Election Supports Manufactured Housing

Vanessa_Rauland_communitynews_dot_au_9_2015The upcoming byelection in Canning, in Western Australia, will see a candidate for the Greens party who is a strong supporter of factory-built home construction, according to communitynews.au. Vanessa Rauland, a Curtin University lecturer, renewable energy advocate and small business owner has a background in low carbon urban development, and seeks to create affordable and sustainable housing.

Public housing is not just about putting a cheap house on the edge of a city or the edge of a suburb. It’s making sure there are options for people to be located in really well-serviced areas with shops and amenities around them. All these factors contribute to affordable housing,” said Rauland.

Noting that the current government had ceased funding of small-scale solar and household projects, a program the Green Party began and seeks to support, she says nearly half the households in Canning have embraced solar technology for power and heating, but the government continues to support the coal mining industry.

She said, “I think there’s going to a bit of a boom in manufactured housing and pre-fabricated modular building. It’s a much more efficient way of building and constructing houses, which reduces the amount of waste and time needed.” The jobs created in making prefabricated housing and in renewable energy are the keys to the future of prosperity and sustainability, added Rauland.

MHProNews understands the Greens would increase the level of research and development for these new industries. ##
