A bill introduced in the North Carolina legislature would bar counties from enforcing laws that exclude manufactured housing from residential areas with other single-family homes, according to citizentimes of Asheville. State Rep. Nathan Ramsey, Republican from Buncombe County, informs MHProNews, “Everyone knows affordable housing is a problem in Western North Carolina. It’s a response to so many people out there who own a piece of land, and the government says they can’t put a home they can afford on their land.” The measure would not apply to historic districts. Under current zoning ordinances manufactured housing is prohibited in ten percent of Buncombe County.
