Affordable Housing Plan calls for 22 New Modular Homes

Following a story MHProNews posted May 21, 2014 regarding the city of Bluffton, South Carolina’s plan to replace aging pre-HUD Code homes with new modulars, the affordable housing committee intends to offer a final draft to the Bluffton Town Council next month. MHProNews has learned the 22 Small Home Series modular units will range from a 600 square-foot unit to a four-bedroom model with 2,000 square feet, priced from $58,000 to $84,000, according to blufftontoday.com. Those applying under the Affordable Housing Initiative must be Bluffton residents who earn no more than 120 percent of the area’s annual median income. Five of the designs were used in the Wharf Street Redevelopment Project, as we reported here Dec. 19, 2011, where the town built the homes and sold them to buyers. In this Small Home Series plan, the town will sell the land to residents or developers, so the town is not on the hook for owning the homes. Buyers would be responsible for 60 percent of the expenses and for demolishing their old dwellings. ##
