New Zealand Considering Modular Homes to Meet Housing Shortage

new zealand modular jackie meiring archdaily com creditMHProNews has learned from radionz.co.nz that the New Zealand government is contemplating building modular homes to meet the shortage of low-income housing in Auckland. Affordable Housing Minister Mrs. Paula Bennett said plans call for an initial round of 130-150 modular homes to determine if they meet the need.

Housing New Zealand has a 97 percent occupancy rate in Auckland. If the plan is approved the homes could be ready for occupancy in April, 2017.

As MHProNews reported Oct. 8, 2014, the earthquake of 2011 that killed 185 people and destroyed thousands of homes has left the country with a continuing shortage of housing. ##
