FEMA Doles Out $4.5 Million to Fire Victims

Calif_fires_9_2015__kgo_tv_creditThe Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has disbursed more than $4.5 million to victims of the Lake County, California Valley Fire that wiped out over 1,230 homes, as MHProNews reported Sept. 24, 2015, $3.2 million to pay for housing, according to record-bee.

Of the 2,861 residents and businesses that have registered with FEMA since President Barack Obama declared the area a disaster zone, 2,050 of those have been in Lake County. The 21 inspectors in the field who have completed 1,591 investigations include housing inspectors who assess damage of homes that have been registered, and operations inspectors who determine manufactured housing needs. FEMA had only expected about 2,000 registrants.

Meanwhile, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers are considering specific sites for manufactured homes.

While FEMA external affairs specialist Steven Solomon says the agency is pleased with the level of repsonse, he adds, “I would encourage anyone holding back from registering to do so as soon as possible. ##
