Disabled Vet gets Eviction Notice from Manufactured Home Community

2015-05-01_2211A disabled veteran in Birch Run, Michigan has evidently received an eviction order from Birchwood Farms manufactured home community (MHC), and has been told he and his wife and three children have 30 days to leave.

Although Gordy Harris says he has never been late on his rent, according to what wnemtv5 tells MHProNews, his lease expired last year and he has not renewed it. He says he assumed it was automatically renewed because he has always paid on time.

According to Michigan law, when someone’s home is on rented land, there is a just cause provision that allows the land owner to evict someone if they have not signed a lease. Harris says, and wnemtv5 confirms, that other residents in the MHC have expired leases but have not received an eviction notice. He says the only thing management has told him is they intend to put a new home on the site.

The TV station says their repeated calls to the owner and the MHC management were not returned. ##
