San Diego Offers $22 Million to MHC Residents

de_anza_cove__mission_bay__nbcsandiegoThe city of San Diego has offered to pay the residents of De Anza Cove manufactured housing community (MHC) $22 million in relocation expenses plus attorney fees to settle a lawsuit, following eleven years of legal wrangling. The homeowners’ attorney released a statement saying the city’s offer is a good first step, according to nbcsandiego.com, but the judgment does not comply with state law on closing a community. De Anza has 509 homesites, but only two-thirds of them are occupied. If the residents agree to the settlement, they have 12 months to leave the property that the city would then own. Otherwise they run the risk of losing the lawsuit, which will give them nothing. MHProNews understands the property, in Mission Bay Park, is prime real estate: A two-bedroom condo with 870 square feet sells for $285,000, according to zillow.com. ##
