Modular Transitional Housing for Offenders Suggested

The Calaveras County Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) in California is a collaboration of the county sheriff’s office, the district attorney and the probation department in an attempt to ease overcrowding in the state prison system and send qualified offenders back to their home counties for supervision. Many who return become transients and do not have a permanent address where they can be reached for supervision and rehabilitation. If they violate probation, the only recourse, as calaverasenterprise.com tells MHProNews.com, is to incarcerate them for up to 10 days, which to the offenders is not a problem. The sheriff’s office has suggested transitional modular housing, which would allow authorities to keep track of the offenders rehabilitation efforts, and could also provide an alternative sentencing option for judges. Initial estimates place the cost at $750,000 for 20 units. The sheriff’s office will determine the feasibility of the proposal. ##
