Although the town of Loyall, Kentucky in the southeastern part of the state has 20 manufactured homes (MH), no more can be added until the state legislature passes a law requiring counties to hire building inspectors, from what harlandaily.com reports. That position has not been filled locally in 13 years. Following a resident’s repeated request to site a manufactured home on a lot adjoining his own, Mayor Clarence Longworth–noting MH “are as good as any home you’ll build, if they are done right on a solid foundation with a driveway off the street”–cannot override state law, as MHProNews.com has learned. Adding that the local ordinance prohibits siting an MH on a lot smaller than 100 square feet, Longworth says, “There are very few places in Loyall that have that size lot to put one in. When you look around and see residents moving out and not moving in — it hurts our town.” ##
