The Choir

December 26th, 2012 Leave a comment Go to comments

We've all heard the saying about preaching to the choir. Someone may comment to me about about some forward looking thought being shared about manufactured housing. "Your preaching to the choir, Tony." That's good! Because a choir stays in practice precisely by signing the same tune from the same page of music.

Whatever your mission is, survey “the choir” you are in or have. Are they all in the same page? Have they all been practicing from that same sheet of music? If you aren't the manager of 'the choir,' pass along this message to the one who is and be their right arm in supporting the mission. Achieving a worthy goal pays off for all involved.

Making New Year's truly brighter

Many companies have finished their budgets for 2013. In those budgets are often goals and projections. If you ever fail to hit those goals and projections, what happens? Is their an individual or team debrief to see what went awry?

More to the point, was everyone on the same page to begin with? Is the choir practicing its tune, measuring against the goals that have been decided upon?

There is tremendous value in goal setting. Books and headline speakers galore have preached the value of putting your goals in writing and then working out the steps to make those goals a reality.

When the members of the team are reinforcing that message and working towards it, the odds of accomplishment shoot up.

Whether you are an association, a company, have a plant or location that you manage, practice preaching and "singing to the choir." Make sure that everyone is on board, that everyone has the tools and resources needed to accomplish their part of the goal. That's akin to making sure that everyone has the right song sheet for their part in the performance.

Look at the photo of the choir. What do you see?

A)Everyone if facing in about the same direction.

B)Everyone is in 'uniform.' See below.

C)Everyone is singing from the same sheet of music. When you think 'music, think about your goals, objectives and play book!

“Uniform” is defined in part by Dictionary dot com as follow:

u·ni·form [yoo-nuh-fawrm] adjective

1.
identical or consistent, as from example to example, place to place, or moment to moment: uniform spelling; a uniform building code.

2.
without variations in detail: uniform output; a uniform surface.

3.
constant; unvarying; undeviating: uniform kindness; uniform velocity.

4.
constituting part of a uniform: to be issued uniform shoes.

5.
Mathematics . occurring in a manner independent of some variable, parameter, function, etc.: a uniform bound.

All success is a matter of proven systems! You build a home successfully, because you have followed a uniform system to build it correctly. Communications and training are part of the process of becoming 'uniform' in consistency.

Finally, messaging!

Get your witnesses on the same page. Make sure that you have not just a soloist singing the organization's message, but many voices all of which blend together to carry the message ahead.

Make 2013 a year for your 'choir.' Be a part of the Industry's choir too through active engagement at trade shows such as Louisville and Tunica and through active engagement in your well established state or national association. If you do, you will look back a year from now and realize how valuable these principles were to your success in 2013. ##
