The new Manufactured Home Living Image Campaign

June 7th, 2013 No comments

tony-kovach.jpgThe early feedback on our new image building resource is in. So far, all of it has been very positive!

Examples of actual comments:

  • "I like it. I like it so much, that I plan to steal some ideas"…from the new site and use it.
  • "Very impressive. This keeps getting better and better."
  • "The original site was OK, but too much work to find content. This new version is easy to navigate and visually appealing. It makes me want to come back and look more."

We have had some questions and comments too, all of which are appreciated, and all of whom still very much liked this site. Yours comments and suggestions are welcome too. For those who want to see what the original, version 1.0 of the site looked like, click here.

Version 2.0 of ManufacturedHomeLivingNews.com – aka MHLivingNews.com – is linked above here.

There are a number of ways you can get involved in this Image Building Campaign.

They range from free no-brainers to pay to play and be featured on the site!

mhlivingnews-ipad-ver2_0b- (1).png

The paid options are all low cost, but more important, can drive business to your business that will pay. All of this will pay off for the industry, because improving the image will help our home owners along with all those dedicated pros in our industry

Quick Facts:

  • We already have the first retailer – that we know about – who has set up an RSS feed on his site to ManufacturedHomeLivingNews.com RSS and/or a hot link are a no-brainer.
  • We already have our first sponsors for the site, with more welcome.
  • We will provide opportunities for any legitimate MH Industry retailers, community, developer, manufacturer, lender or other product/service providers to have low cost pages and link backs. During the introductory phase, those who buy a page will have it on our site for the next 5 years (some common sense restrictions apply).
  • We will welcome and encourage association involvement in this project in ways that will be mutually beneficial. Association members or executives, please feel free to call 815-270-0500 or email me tony@mhmsm.com or latonyk@gmail.com, thanks!

In the days ahead, we will give you a more detailed tour of the ManufacturedHomeLivingNews site, the concepts and how we will continue to add to it in the days ahead. But lets pencil out a few quick points.

Target Audience

  • The general public.
  • Public officials (image building will help win more efforts with them too).
  • Current manufactured home owners and land lease community residents, because they can become our industrys promoters, if we are wise. They want to feel good about where they live! Give them a tool they can share with their friends, family, co-workers and associates, and they will share it for their own good reasons!
  • Industry members. Use this as a closing tool when needed. Example, the video about tornadoes and manufactured housing has already closed business for a forward thinking sales pro at their community.

A top executive at vertically integrated company told me this recently. Tony, we follow up on all our leads. So we know that we lose more business not to others in manufactured housing, but to people buying a conventional, site built house.

That is one of many reasons the industry needs this website!

We will continually add content to this new site, similar to how we have done it for the past 3½ years here on MHProNews.com. Adding content is one of the many ways that we will keep visitors coming back.

Manufacturers, Retailers and Communities are all welcome to submit an appropriately decorated featured home. For more information, please click here.

We will also showcase for readers how even lower end or older mobile homes are a legitimate, value option. Over time, our featured articles, homes and videos will deal with all of the common objections that skeptical prospects and the public have. We will also update the video with a bigger, better version 2.0 of that tool, a sponsor(s) for that video update are welcome.

Just Do It

Youve asked for it. Youve got it. Now, learn to use it and run with it!

Pass the word onto your team mates and to anyone you know. Here is a starting how to use this New Business and Image Building “free” tip article. Your questions and feedback by phone or email are welcome. ##

Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right. – Henry Ford

Habit forming

June 21st, 2012 No comments

First you form your habits, then your habits form you.  This maxim is true in our personal life, and it is true in our professional life.  That includes how you approach management, marketing and sales too.  Let's see how this principle plays out in manufactured housing.

In this new economy and more rigorous regulatory environment, you have either:

  • adapted to the new situations,
  • have not,
  • or are seeking to find ways that will drive profits for your business.
  • If you are stuck in old ways that no longer work, then that old habit is now limiting you.

We strive to practice what we preach here at MHProNews.com/MHMarketingSalesManagement.com.  We test new ideas.  We strive to use old tried and true ideas only when they still apply.

Videos are nothing new.  We have had TV available to the masses for about 60 years now.  There have been motion pictures for about a century.  What is a newer development is the ability for a firm like your to make their own video.

Here is short one we just did as an introduction video.  Take a look.  Then think about how you could do a video project that could help your firm too. The technology today makes this so much easier than even a few years ago.

Tony like's to quote a saying of G. K. Chesterton, on a theme that Zig Ziglar has touched on in his recent column on our site. The original quote is this:

If a thing is worth doing, it is worth doing badly.”

– G. K. Chesterton

This is a paradox, so it needs a bit of commentary, that the Ziglar article linked above does nicely. Let's try to get the meaning down to a phrase. You have something worth doing, but because you are new at it, so at first you do it 'badly.' Later, as you do more of the 'thing' – whatever it is – you get better at it. You also get more comfortable doing the something new over time too. Just as a child learns in stages, so too we adults. We improve by doing!

Putting our own principles to work, here is the Updated (improved) version of the video above.

Let me also give you a big tip. Sometimes the slickest pieces are not the ones that connect you to your target market. Many people want GENUINE, not 'slick.'

Is there some area of your operation that you want to improve?

  • As a manufactured home community owner, could you be filling more vacant homes and sites? Do you want more happy residents that pay better as a result?
  • As a manufactured home retailer, would you like to have more sales and more happy customers, who bring you referrals so you sell even more homes?
  • As a factory builder, wouldn't you like to get more market penetration, and offer something unique to your retailers, developers and communities that would drive more sales for them, and thus for you too?
  • As a lender, insurance company or other vendors and suppliers, don't you also want to stand out from the crowd and land more business that sticks?

There is only one honest answer to questions like these: of course, yes. Who honestly wants to sell less or do worse?

So why not try something new in your business today? Why not start a new habit, starting right away?

There are many ways to learn and do something new.

You can talk to someone or read articles and books – like this one – pick up an idea and then experiment with that idea yourself. You can put someone on your payroll that does that new thing for you. Or you can outsource, which means you could learn from someone who knows, and then when you have that new thing well in hand, you can shake hands and move one without the hassles or long term commitment that comes from hiring an employee.

When you are ready for proven ways to grow your business, please take a look at our services menu, attached here. From websites, to training in management, marketing and sales, to Business to Business (B2B) advertising here on MHProNews.com or Business to Consumer (B2C) outreaches to manufactured home owners and MH Shoppers at MHLivingNews.com, come to us, first, last or in between. Give me a confidential call. I'll listen to your situation. We can tell you if we can serve you or if you need to think about someone else instead.

You see, we have a habit. We want to work with companies that we truly believe we can benefit. If you win, then we win too. When everyone in the mix benefits, that is the basis for a solid professional relationship. It is a habit worth forming. Just see what some of our clients have said or take a peek at many more letters, awards and testimonials linked here. ##

The MH-AP and You

April 18th, 2012 No comments

Help us help you help our Industry with the MH Advancement Project (MH-AP). Your company could drive more business and profits while protecting and promoting the manufactured industry. Before we dive in, let's briefly set the stage.

Paraphrasing what more than one well known manufactured housing personality has said to me:

'In Washington DC, the manufactured housing industry
is a like a pimple on an elephant's behind.'

So on issues such as changing the SAFE Act, Dodd-Frank and the CFPB with legislation such as HR 3849, the experts agree we don't have an easy road ahead. With HUD, the EPA or other regulators, MH Industry associations and their members generally don't carry the influence we need by ourselves. Which is why MHI and others often seek to leverage relationships to enhance advocacy and influence.

But haven't we missed one of the biggest influencers of all? A group we should be able to tap readily? I think the answer is 'yes.'

We can dramatically grow our influence by aligning the interests of manufactured home owners – and pre-HUD Code mobile home owners – with MH professionals. If there is one thing that politicians need as much or more as campaign funds it is votes come election time!

Getting Ready To Vote

Image of the political power of a crowd of our customers and residents getting ready to vote…

With and estimated 8.8 million pre-HUD Code and post HUD Code manufactured homes in the U.S. and with some 19 million residents in those homes, that represents about 6% of the national population. By organizing enough of those MH voters, we can tip the scales in elections for or against a candidate. Think about the polls and voting. 6% can often make the difference. When an interest group shows up at the polls during elections, that 6% can be even more powerful because so many do not show up to vote.

The journey of thousand miles begins with a single step.

– Lao Tzu

While ambitious, there are relatively easy steps we can take to accomplish this goal, and we have already begun the process. Please join us in this effort. Those who do can benefit short, medium and long term.

MHLivingNews.comis a new website that we have just launched focused on the MH Home Owner and MH Residents. We will carry periodic stories, but a key focus for us will be the ALERT system we are building.

Over time, we expect the MHLivingNews.com site to have far more traffic than our site here at MHProNews.com because there are about a quarter of a million estimated MH connected professionals, employees and business owners. But there are some 19-20 million MH owners and residents!

  • Anyone can send their customers or residents a free link. With MHLivingNews.com being 'a third party,' it is potentially more powerful than you making the same request directly of your customers or residents.
  • For those who work in the communities world, you already know how a story can spread 'in the park.' When someone gets motivated, they tell their neighbors. Certainly the impact of Dodd-Frank and SAFE Act on the values of mobile and manufactured home owners is so significant, once residents 'get it' they will have a reason to change it.
  • FYI – Select http://www.mhmarketingsalesmanagement.com/advertise(MHMSM.com a.k.a. MHMarketingSalesManagement.com) will get a special package, that will include free banner ads on http://www.manufacturedhomelivingnews.com/alert.

We will continue to add content to www.MHLivingNews.com, which will attract and retain a growing number of readers coming. Help us, help you help our Industry.

FYI, I've already contacted my Congressman and he is on board with HR 3849. This is easier than you think. Get an email for a staffer, send them this link, which is an all in one brief and shows those already signed on. Then, ask your staff and team members to do the same.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. How do you impact Congress? One request at a time. How do you begin the journey of a thousand miles? With a single, simple step. Please take yours today to tomorrow. Working together, we can make this happen. # #
