Glorifying the Misfits!

August 1st, 2015 No comments

Tony,

Here’s to the Crazy Ones, The Misfits, The Rebels, The Troublemakers, The Round Pegs in the Square Holes; The ones who see things differently. They’re not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them. Because they change things.

They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as crazy ones, we see genius. Because the People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

No Surrender! The Burning Heart, Survivor

February 16th, 2014 No comments

You couldn't tell from my love of the Rocky movie series that my interest in boxing is near zero. Rocky is not so much about boxing, as it is about what it takes to overcome; what it takes to achieve success and victory even against long odds.

Consider the lyrics to this song, supplied by the same person who did the montage for the video above.

While all of it is powerful, Survivor's lyrics in the third paragraph below are particularly packed with meaning. Ponder, enjoy, then just do it.

Burning heart

Two worlds collide, rival nations
It's a primitive clash, venting years of frustrations
Bravely we hope against all hope, there is so much at stake
Seems our freedom's up against the ropes
Does the crowd understand?
Is it a East vs. West, or man against man
Can any nation stand alone?

In the burning heart, just about to burst
There's a quest for answers, an unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night, rising like a spire
In the burning heart, the unmistakable fire, in the burning heart

In the warrior's code, there's no surrender
Though his body says stop, his spirit cries never
Deep in our soul a quiet ember
Knows it's you against you
the paradox that drives us on
It's a battle of wills, in the heat of attack
It's the passion that kills
The victory is yours alone

In the burning heart, just about to burst
There's a quest for answers, an unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night, rising like a spire
In the burning heart, the unmistakable fire

In the burning heart, just about to burst
There's a quest for answers, an unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night, rising like a spire
In the burning heart, the unmistakable fire

In the burning heart, just about to burst
There's a quest for answers, an unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night, rising like a spire
In the burning heart, the unmistakable fire
In the burning heart.

Feliz Navidad – the Happy Nativity of Jesus Of Nazareth – Jesus Christ – some 2000 years ago is commemorated on December 25th.

Merry Christmas!

Wikipedia says that in their July 2012 estimates, the CIA World Factbook gives the world population as 7,021,836,029. Of those, Christians 33.35%, with just over half that total being Catholic and the balance spread among Protestants, Orthodox and other Christians. Here in the U.S, roughly 3 out of 4 this year self identify as Christian. Almost everyone in America celebrates Christmas in some way.

Earl Nightingale’s The Strangest Secret Excerpt

September 29th, 2010 No comments

Earl Nightingale’s classic, The Strangest Secret, earned the first Gold Record for the spoken word, with sales exceeding 1 million copies. Nightingale, known as the “dean of personal development,” reveals how he discovered and lived the secret to success. For the first time, Earl Nightingale’s famous words written in 1957 are presented in a beautifully designed gift book with a CD of his original recording. This inspirational message is as timely today as it was when first written. The book and CD set is a great gift to inspire anyone in your organization to truly understand how to get from where you are to where you want to be.

“For all of us, there are turning points in our lives. One of mine was the first time I heard The Strangest Secret in 1964. It was then, and still is, the most powerful and thought-provoking message I’ve ever heard.”
